Hi all! Happy hump day! I just finished reading "Open Season" (A Joe Pickett novel) by C.J. Box. I enjoyed it! It's kind of a spooky, vulgar book (what is it with me and vulgar books lately?!) but it was on the family shared kindle so I figured what the heck it looks interesting, so I downloaded it and a few days later I was done! It's full of mystery, intrigue, bad guys and betrayal. The heroes emerge in unusual ways. I recommend it for people who like mystery and appreciate a good character description. That was definitely a strength of the book for me, I felt like I got to know the characters really well, really fast. Also, it appears there is a whole series of Joe Pickett novels!! You know how much I love a good series! :)
As a side note, I really want this for a coffee table book.

What to Read Wednesday
Happy hump day babes!! I hope everyone is having a great week! My week has been a little crazy! All the students are back at school so everyone is dropping by the office for help and questions and stuff. I've also been able to do some fun things after work like yoga and a movie (we saw the new Leo movie last night) so that's been great!
I read four books over the holiday break, three of which were in a series called "The Chronos Files" by Rysa Walker. Book one "Timebound", was my favorite of the series. The other two are called "Time's Edge" and "Time's Divide." The series is definitely more "young adult" than I normally like -- the characters are dealing with high school issues like young romance which I wasn't too crazy about, but the time travel part of the books was fun and pretty interesting. As the books go on they get a little bit strange but they are definitely an easy read. There is an element of faux-religious fundamentalism (a made up religion/cult) so if that kind of thing offends you, this may not be the book series for you.
What are you reading lately?

What to read wednesday
I started (and finished) The House of Silk by Anthony Horowitz over the holiday weekend. Have I ever mentioned how much I love Sherlock Holmes and all things Sherlock Holmes related? I liked this book, it's a quick read and has lots of twists and turns but in the end the threads all make sense. I'm reading the second book in his series now, Moriarty, and I'm liking this book a tad more because I find it more interesting, but it's also scarier/more violent, so stay tuned for future updates and if my feelings change.
I also recently finished A Fire Beneath the Skin books 1 & 2, Ink Mage and The Tattooed Duchess by Victor Gischler. These books are not for the faint of heart -- there is a lot of blood and gore and actually sex too, which surprised me. I stumbled upon this series on Audible.com and listened to them on my drives to and from work. They were absolutely engrossing and I can't WAIT until the third book in the series comes out, but they definitely aren't for everyone. I happen to love fantasy books and stories about magical/other worlds, but I almost stopped reading the first book because it was so gory. Luckily I kept going and ended up really liking the stories.
I think I might like to read something Christmassy this holiday season? Maybe A Christmas Carol?

What to Read Wednesday
Good morning lovelies! Here is what I've read recently and would like to share/recommend to all of you!
1. I just read The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin for the second time.
"The Happiness Project synthesizes the wisdom of the ages with current scientific research, as Rubin brings readers along on her year to greater happiness." quote from the author's website.
I love this book! I find it very uplifting. It takes you on the author's personal happiness journey while providing some simple tips for how to improve your own life and boost happiness. Rubin's tone is funny, honest, and, I think, very relateable. I highly recommend it as a light, quick read.
2. I also just finished Fortune's Pawn by Rachel Bach. "Devi Morris isn't your average mercenary. She has plans. Big ones. And a ton of ambition. It's a combination that's going to get her killed one day - but not just yet." quote from the author's website. If you like Sci Fi, you might like this book. It's another easy read, funny, and kind of quirky with a badass woman as the main character.
3. I'm on the second book in the Paradox Trilogy by Rachel Bach - Honor's Knight. I don't love it so far but I'm going to keep reading so I can read the final book in the series. I hope it finishes strong! Stay tuned.
4. In my last What to Read Wednesday (which you can find here) I mentioned I was reading the Wednesday Sisters by Meg Waite Clayton. I finished it shortly after I wrote that post - I loved the book! I loved it so much I ordered it for one of my bff's birthdays earlier this month! I want to give it to all my female friends. It's a really touching story with a good historical context. The author wrote another book called The Wednesday Daughters which is connected with the first and is next on my reading list.
5. Another book on my reading list is the final book in the Paradox Trilogy by Rachel Bach - Heaven's Queen.
What have you been reading lately? Any recommendations? I hope you all have a lovely day!

What to Read Wednesday
Hi folks! In the spirit of my quest to become a well-rounded and well-educated person, I'm starting a new series called "What to Read Wednesday." This may include links to news articles, videos, or books that I'm currently reading or have read and want to share with all of you. If you only stop by my blog for fashion, food, or travel, the topics I usually cover, you may want to skip over these pieces; however, I strongly encourage you to stop, take a moment, and choose one article you might normally avoid, and read it. Look it up on Twitter. Talk to your friends about it. Send it to people you know. Engage in the conversation.
1. I'm embarrassed for USC that this happened, but I am so proud of our student body president Rini Sampath for standing up for herself, and for other victims of racism, and bringing to not only to the USC administration, but to the world for a larger conversation. Check out the Washington Post article here. (Articles also on the LA Times, Daily Trojan, NBC LA and others.)
2. This is "old" news from September 16th but it's been staying with me -- the story of Ahmed and his clock.
3. I just finished the book "Everything I Never Told You" by Celeste Ng.
"Lydia is dead. But they don’t know this yet . . .
5. Another old news article from June 9th but I can't let this one go -- the story of Albert Woodfox who was in solitary confinement for 43 years.

"Lydia is dead. But they don’t know this yet . . .
So begins the story of this exquisite debut novel, about a Chinese American family living in 1970s small-town Ohio." quote from the author's website. A thought-provoking read, this book will encourage you to look at your own identity, family relationships, pre-judgments (and misjudgments) you make about others, and race both in the 1970s and today.
4. I'm now reading "The Wednesday Sisters" by Meg Waite Clatyon. "When five young mothers—Frankie, Linda, Kath, Ally, and Brett—first meet in a neighborhood park in the late 1960s, their conversations center on marriage, raising children, and a shared love of books." quote from the author's website. Stay tuned for more. 5. Another old news article from June 9th but I can't let this one go -- the story of Albert Woodfox who was in solitary confinement for 43 years.
